Gion

You can enjoy the graceful “Kyoto” atmosphere around Gion. The Yasaka Shrine and Kenninji temple are in Gion. So, Gion is very popular. If you are lucky, you can see Maiko (apprentice geisha).
Kiyomizudera

You can get the whole view of Kyoto city from “Kiyomizu no Butai” which stands on a cliffsaide. In each season, the view is very impressive (Cherry Blossoms in the spring, autumn color of leaves) Therefore, all year, there are a lot of people.
Fushimi Inari Shrine

Fushimi Inari Taisha is an important Shinto shrine in South Kyoto. It is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which straddle a network of trails behind its main buildings. The trails leads into the forest of the sacred Mount Inari.
Sanjusangendo
About 10min walk
This temple is called “Sanjusangendo” (thirty-three temple) because there are thirty-three spaces between the pillars. You can see 1001 statues of the Kannon with a thousand hands in the main temple. One of these statues is our national treasure. 500 statues line up on each side. That sight is the best part of the visit.
Kyoto National Museum

Kyoto National Museum is the most famous museum in Kyoto. This museum is a good old-fashioned building. It was built in the “Meiji” era. In 2014, the new exhabitation facility opened in there. Kyoto National Museum has become the center of public attention as a main artistic spot in Kyoto.

From YAEYA TOICHICHO, you can wander along the Kamogawa River, and you can buy Japanese sweets at “Kansyundo”.
And then, you can go through from Toyokuni Shrine and Kyoto National Museum, to Sanjusangendo and Chishakuin.
From Gion to Kiyomizudera.
From YAEYA TOICHICHO, you can walk to Gion. Gion has lot of time-honored tea houses, moreover, there are Kenninji temple and Minamiza (Kabuki Stage) and so on. Therefore, Gion is crowded with a lot of people. If you are lucky, you could come across Maiko girls on the street.
At the end of Shijo Street there is Yasaka shrine, well-known for its Gion festival. When you walk down from Yasaka Shrine, there is “Isebei Koji”, an area of preserved traditional buildings. You could feel the flavor of the good old atmosphere. Going through the alley, you can see the Takadaiji Street. And then, in Kiyomizudera, you can buy some “Kyoto” souvenirs. So, please enjoy a stroll around Kyoto.
